Classical choir in Copenhagen – University Choir Lille MUKO

The University Choir Lille MUKO is a prominent classical choir from Copenhagen. The choir consists of current and former music students as well as other qualified singers.

The choir was founded in 1967 and is an offshoot of MUKO, which is the University of Copenhagen’s choir of music students. Lille MUKO still has ties to the University of Copenhagen, where the choir often serves a representative role at official events.

Through recordings, national and international activities, the choir works to promote awareness of especially Danish and Scandinavian choral music.

  • Jul på Dansk

This December, Universitetskoret Lille MUKO and conductor Ole Faurschou invite you to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the beloved Christmas concert Jul på Dansk in Holmens Kirke on Saturday, 20 December, with performances at 2 PM and 5 PM.

Together with soprano Frederikke Kampmann and tenor Anders Kampmann, the choir presents a programme of Christmas songs and hymns from Denmark and abroad – all sung in Danish in beautiful arrangements. The ensemble features Tine Rehling (harp), Eva Østergaard and Nikolaj von Scholten (flute), and Jakob Lorentzen (organ). Lorentzen, organist of Holmens Kirke, is also behind many of the arrangements performed by the choir, soloists, and instrumentalists.

To mark the anniversary, Lille MUKO will premiere a new work by the renowned Danish composer Matti Borg, with lyrics by Celeste Borchorst Faurschou. Their collaboration brings together music and text in a fresh and poetic expression that honours the concert’s long-standing tradition.

The true spirit of Christmas fills the church as the audience joins in singing the beloved communal hymns – a moment when voices unite and lift the roof. As always, the concert concludes with all performers gathered at the altar for “Dejlig er jorden” in Jakob Lorentzen’s moving arrangement.

For thirty years, Jul på Dansk has been a cherished tradition for many, shared with family and friends as part of the festive season. For the choir and its regular collaborators, Christmas simply wouldn’t be complete without this concert in the beautiful surroundings of Holmens Kirke.
